Urinary tract infections
A urinary tract infection (UTI) is caused by bacteria. It is not sexually transmitted but sexual intercourse can make it easier to contract. Poor personal hygiene, such as not washing one's hands after using the bathroom, can also contribute to it.
Symptoms
- A frequent need to urinate.
- Pain and heat when urinating.
- Blood in the urine.
- Fever and hot and cold flushes.
Diagnosis
A UTI can be diagnosed by a urine sample.
Treatment
UTIs are treated with antibiotics. Drinking lots of water speeds up recovery. Do not interrupt the treatment, or the infection may return. Untreated infections can damage the ovaries.
