Pubic lice
A pubic louse is a 2mm-long parasite which lives in people's body hair other than on the scalp. Its eggs attach themselves to hairs. Pubic lice are usually found around the anus but they can also be found elsewhere such as in pubic, chest and armpit hair as well as in eyebrows and eyelashes. Pubic lice can be caught by skin contact and through clothes.
Symptoms
- Itching and skin irritation.
- Blue marks left from bites; scratch marks on the skin.
Diagnosis
Lice lay their eggs in hair, where they are easily noticeable.
Treatment
Treatment to eradicate pubic lice is available from pharmacies and comes with detailed instructions. If the lice are in the eye area then you need to go to a doctor.
