Gonorrhoea
Gonorrhoea is caused by bacteria. It can also spread through the hands to become an eye infection. Through oral sex, it can develop into oral gonorrhoea. Gonorrhoea can also occur in the rectum.
Symptoms
- An increased need to urinate.
- Pain and stinging when urinating.
- Yellowy-brown and grey discharge from the urethra.
- The symptoms of oral gonorrhoea can resemble angina.
- Painful erections in men can be a sign of infection.
- The disease can also have no symptoms.
The consequences of untreated gonorrhoea can be joint infections and meningitis. Untreated gonorrhoea in men can lead to infection of the prostate and epididymis, which can lead to decreased fertility.
Diagnosis
A gonorrhoea sample is taken during examination by a doctor. The sample can be taken from urine, the urethra, mouth or anal area. The incubation time for the disease is 2 - 5 days.
Treatment
Gonorrhoea is treated by antibiotics. The treatment must not be interrupted.
